DEHRADUN: The CBI has initiated action against seven individuals, including a former commandant of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)’s 23rd battalion in Dehradun, for their alleged involvement in financial irregularities worth Rs 70.6 lakh in procuringration for jawans.
The case, registered on December 13, is based on a complaint lodged earlier this year by present ITBP commandant Piyush Pushkar.A CBI officer said, “A case has been registered, and probe is underway.”
The accused comprise three ITBP officers – former commandant Ashok Kumar Gupta, along with sub-inspectors Sudhir Kumar and Anusuya Prasad. Additionally, four private contractors and traders are implicated in the ongoing investigation.
A copy of the FIR obtained by TOI outlines the modus operandi of the accused, who, in collusion with the contractors, reportedly engaged in financial malpractices by submitting inflated bills for personal gain. This activity resulted in a significant loss of Rs 70.6 lakh for ITBP between 2017 and 2019.
Notably, the three accused ITBP officers are already under investigation in a similar case from last year.
