Congress Crowdfunding Campaign: Congress says it raised Rs 1 crore in 6 hours through crowdfunding | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress on Monday mopped up one crore rupees in six hours through crowdfunding after party president Mallikarjun Kharge launched the party’s ‘Donate for Desh‘ campaign and exhorted people to join the fight against unemployment and price rise.
Launching the crowdfunding initiative at a small function attended by Congress treasurer Ajay Maken, KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh and Delhi state president Arvinder Singh Lovely, Kharge donated Rs 1,38,000, and was presented a certificate.
Kharge said, “It is a very happy day that our party leaders have prepared an App. I feel this is the first time that Congress is seeking the help of the common people to build the country.” He said the initiative will attract small donors, arguing that over dependence on the rich only forces the political parties to agree with their programmes and policies.
“Through ‘Donate for Desh’, we will work to take the country forward by taking help from the general public. Mahatma Gandhi also got Independence for the country with the help of people of the country,” he said, adding, “there is only one party which is fighting for the poor”.
Maken informed that the contributions can be made through the website, which is also provided as a link in the official party website The party pooh poohed the stories that the domain name seeking donations was registered in the name of a non-party person.
