6 major legislations get Parliament approval as winter session ends | India News


Bringing an end to the winter session marred by a major security breach and a record number of MP suspensions, both Houses were adjourned sine die on Thursday, a day ahead of schedule, after six major bills got Parliament‘s nod on the day.
While Rajya Sabha cleared the three bills to overhaul India’s criminal justice system, Lok Sabha approved a bill on the appointment of the CEC and ECs. The LS also passed a bill allowing the government to temporarily take over telecom services in the interest of national security. Overall, LS passed 18 bills, and logged 74% productivity.

3 more LS MPs suspended, Parliament session ends day before schedule
Three more Lok Sabha MPs were suspended before both Houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die Thursday, a day ahead of the scheduled end of the winter session, bringing the curtains down on a tumultuous session marked by the a serious breach of security and the resultant protests, leading to the suspension of 146 members of opposition parties. The session also witnessed expulsion of TMC Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra in the ‘cash for query’ case.
The total number of suspended members went up to 146, including 100 from Lok Sabha, as opposition parties continued their protests against the security breach and demanded a statement by home minister Amit Shah on the issue, followed by a discussion.
Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die after three Congress MPs were suspended. Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi moved a motion for the suspension of DK Suresh, Deepak Baij and Nakul Nath for protesting in the House.
Rajya Sabha was adjourned after it passed three bills seeking to replace colonial-era criminal laws – Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and Indian Evidence Act.
