3 Maoists killed in Dantewada encounter, explosives seized | India News


RAIPUR: Three Maoists were gunned down by security forces in Dantewada district on Sunday, say police. A large quantity of explosives was seized.
The forces have stepped up anti-Maoist operations after a string of recent IED blasts and ambushes that killed three jawans and injured seven. Several skirmishes have happened since CM Vishnu Deo Sai ordered intensification of ops, with police saying that they managed to hit at least eight insurgents but couldn’t nab anyone.This time, three bodies, in PLGA uniform, were found.

According to the Bastar IG office, a joint team of Bastar Fighters and District Reserve Guards set out from Tumakpal camp in Katekalyan on a search operation. Around 5:30pm, they came upon a group of Maoists near Dabbakunna village on the border of Dantewada and Sukma, and a gunfight erupted.

After the Maoists retreated, police searched the area and found the three bodies. Dantewada SP Gaurav Rai said that the dead Maoists are yet to be identified. The forces are still on the spot and communication is patchy due to poor network. The search operation is on, with central forces joining the team.

Sunday’s encounter site is around 50km from where security forces and Maoists clashed on Saturday.
