X: Elon Musk’s X launches affordable version of verification for smaller businesses


Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) has launched a basic tier of verification that essentially aims to tap smaller businesses. The company is also offering some perks to those who subscribe to the new tier.
The new basic paid tier for verified organisations is now available for $200 per month or $2,000 per year. In India, X offers full access for Rs 82,300/month (plus any applicable tax) and each additional affiliated account is Rs 4,120 per handle per month (plus any applicable tax).
There is no annual plan as of now and as per the company, the yearly version is “coming soon”. “Reach more customers organically, affiliate your network, or find your next hire,” the company says. It offers a gold checkmark, priority support, premium+, hiring, 2x boost and affiliations with the available tier.
What’s the difference
The basic tier for verified organisations now gives them a gold check-mark badge, along with a few other benefits, for $200 per month. Previously, the version cost $1,000 per month for “full access”.
“Designed for smaller businesses, subscribers receive ad credits and priority support to enable faster growth on X,” the company posted.

The affordable plan seems to attract businesses who did not pay for the costly expensive plan, implying that the platform is not able to attract all businesses for paid plans. Furthermore, this plan may also help X to generate more revenue, which has been a problem for the company since Musk took over in 2022.
Most recently, advertisers again flew from the platform leaving the company’s main revenue source somewhat dry.
While brands like Apple, Disney, IBM and Comcast, among others, paused advertising on X, the company reportedly planned to ramp up a new advertising strategy by turning to small and medium-sized advertisers to bring some revenue.
