UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024: The Union Public Service Commission is expected to release the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024 notification today on its official website at upsc.gov.in. According to the examination calendar for 2024-25, released earlier by the UPSC, the CSE exam notification and subsequent registration process will begin from today i.e February 14, 2024.
The examination calendar 2024 also states that the registration deadline for UPSC CSE 2024 will be March 5, 2024.The Civil Services Exam 2024 will take place on May 26, 2024. The registration round for Indian Forest Service Prelims will also begin today and end on the same day as UPSC CSE 2024 registrations; date of examination also coincides with both scheduled to commence on May 26, 2024. The Civil Services Main examination 2024 is expected to commence on September 20, 2024 – and will go on for five days covering various papers.
UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024 vacancy details
Each year, The Civil Services Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to select candidates for key posts in Group A and B of various government departments, such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Revenue Service (IRS). The selection process is divided into three stages: preliminary, main, and personality test. The first stage of the exam, the prelims round attracts more than 10 lakh candidates each year. Last year alone, the exam saw 13 lakh applicants in the prelims round, with a little over 14,600 candidates getting selected for the Main exam round.
The UPSC CSE 2024 notification is will also announce the number of vacancies that the commission aims to fill this year. For the previous two sessions, 2022-23 and 2023-24 1,011 and 1,105 vacancies were announced respectively.
UPSC CSE 2024 eligibility criteria
Candidates who apply for the Civil Services Examination must meet specific UPSC eligibility requirements in order to take the Prelims and Mains exams.
Academic qualification required:

  • The UPSC CSE eligibility criteria for academic qualifications are listed below:
  • Candidates must have a degree from a government-approved university or an equivalent qualification.
  • Final-year graduates and those awaiting results may also apply for the UPSC Prelims Examination. However, they must provide proof of passing the required examination before applying for the UPSC Mains Examination.
  • Candidates who hold professional and technical qualifications recognised by the government as equivalent to degrees are also eligible.
  • Medical students who have finished their final year of MBBS but have not completed their internship can apply for UPSC CSE. Along with their Mains Exam application, they must submit a certificate of course completion from the relevant university/institutional authority.

  • Number of attempts allowed:
    The UPSC Civil Services Examination allows candidates a different number of attempts depending on their category. General category candidates can take the exam six times before reaching the age of 32. OBC candidates are eligible for nine attempts until the age of 35. SC/ST candidates are eligible for unlimited attempts until the age of 37. Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) are allowed nine attempts until the age of 42. EWS candidates are allowed six attempts until the age of 32.

  • Nationality:
    The nationality criteria for UPSC examinations vary based on the service category. For IAS, IPS, and IFS, candidates must be Indian citizens. For all other services, candidates must be either Indian citizens, Nepali citizens, Bhutanese citizens, Tibetan refugees arriving before January 1, 1962, intending to settle permanently, or persons of Indian origin (PIO) migrating from specific countries with the intention to settle permanently in India.
