Jaipur is gradually becoming a hotspot for producing qualified rank-holder Chartered Accountants (CAs). The city has traditionally been a home to CA aspirants and several toppers in the past few years including this year have been from Jaipur. The recently released ICAI Final November 2023 results had at least three toppers from Jaipur. Madhur Jain with 619 marks secured AIR-1 and both Tikendra Kumar Singhal and Rishi Malhotra with 590 marks, shared AIR-3. However, Sanskruti Atul Parolia from Mumbai secured AIR-2. This is not the first time that the Pink City has churned out toppers in CA final and CA intermediate exams, as there have been candidates claiming ranks among the top 50 spots every year in the past decade. Akshat Goyal from Jaipur secured AIR-2 in the CA Final 2022 exam on his first attempt. He secured the AIR-1 in the CA Intermediate 2019 exam. During CA Final 2022 session, three other students from the city made it to the AIR top 50 list. In 2022, the average pass percentage of Jaipur stood at 17.92%, meanwhile, the total pass percentage at the national level was 15.3%.
Jaipur has several coaching centres, the largest ICAI branch and several accountancy firms to offer mentorship and articleship opportunities to aspirants. Akshat Goyal AIR 2 CA topper 2022 says, “Jaipur is a study hub not only for CA studies but other entrance exams too. It is prominently acknowledged for CAs as the city has the largest ICAI branch in the central region, with more than 10,000 members and a huge number of students are preparing for the CA exam here. Recently, three of the Big 4 accounting firms have set up their offices in Jaipur, which is gradually transforming the city into a hub for CAs. Students from other parts of Rajasthan and other neighbouring states also opt to relocate to Jaipur for coaching. “When I was preparing, we had many students from other states including from Nepal,” says Akshat.
In the CA Final November 2023 session, out of 32,907 students, only 8,650 qualified as CAs, with a pass percentage of 9.42% across India. Tikendra Kumar Singhal AIR-3 in 2023 refer Jaipur as a hub for commerce studies. “The city has around 40-60% of students in all India pass percentage. There were around 30 students who were pursuing their CA Articleship in the same firm where I was working, of which 20 qualified for the CA Final 2023. So, the average pass percentage at this firm was 75%,” says Tikendra. Some of the coaching institutes in Jaipur were established by CA rank-holders and several meritorious students work as faculties. Rishi Malhotra AIR-3 in 2023 says, “There is an institute in Jaipur that was established by two AIR 1 rank-holder brothers, around 70-80% of the aspirants try to enrol here either to access online or offline lectures. Because of its knowledgeable instructors and accessibility to online courses, Jaipur is steadily gaining ground as a teaching centre for those preparing for CA.”
Students of Rajasthan are inclined and have a stronger aptitude for commerce which can be a reason behind the success rate apart from the motivation that drives them to maintain consistency, says Sunil Sharma, director-Assuarance, BSR & Co LLP, Jaipur. He adds, “A section of residents in Jaipur have historically been involved in jobs related to accountancy, bookkeeping and ledgers. This might gain prominence as Kota, which gets aspirants preparing for JEE and NEET. Availability of equipped tutors, guidance, mentorship and a close connection with the fraternity for exposure adds to the advantage.” The practical experience that students get with the clients, other senior CAs and peer students at the firm while completing the articleship helps them write well in the exams and boosts their confidence, says Bhupendra Mantri, partner, Kalani &Co, Jaipur. “The city’s ecosystem is conducive for aspirants. Sufficient coaching, practical exposure and mock tests help them crack the exam.”
