OnePlus Buds 3 review: Design and setup

The OnePlus Buds 3 impress with their sleek two-tone metallic finish. The earpieces are compact and lightweight, ensuring a comfortable fit courtesy the silicone ear tips. While the charging case lacks the weatherproofing of the earbuds, its matte design complements the overall aesthetic nicely. The look of the earbuds is pretty much in line with the previous generation of OnePlus Buds.

These earbuds support Bluetooth 5.3 and come equipped with AAC, LHDC 5.0, and SBC codecs, catering to both Apple users and high-end OnePlus phone owners. We paired the OnePlus Buds 3 with the OnePlus Open as well as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The setup process hardly takes any time. The capacitive touch panels on the stems allow for easy and intuitive controls, including track skipping, call answering, and toggling between noise cancellation and transparency modes.

OnePlus Buds 3 review: Performance, battery life

Battery life is a strong point, with the earbuds offering up to 6.5 hours with ANC and 10 hours without. The case provides an additional boost, bringing the total playtime to 28 hours with ANC and 44 hours without. Quick charging ensures you’re never without music for long, delivering 7 hours of playback with just a 10-minute charge.
Noise cancellation on the OnePlus Buds 3 is reasonably good, effectively muffling ambient noise in quieter environments. At this price point, you can’t expect much and OnePlus Buds 3 deliver what they promise. The transparency mode is really effective as you are aware of your surroundings However, compared to high-end competitors, it might not completely block out louder noises. The transparency mode, on the other hand, shines, offering a natural and immersive audio experience that keeps you aware of your surroundings.

The audio experience on the OnePlus Buds 3 was on point. The sound quality was clear and balanced across various genres. “Hotel California” by the Eagles, sounded crisp and detailed.”Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars has a vibrant and energetic feel. The bass levels don’t overpower on the OnePlus Buds 3 and overall sound signature is balanced. “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen had distinct instrumentals and vocals. While the OnePlus Buds 3 might not please the ear of audiophiles, they provide an enjoyable listening experience across different types of music.
There were no issues while taking calls. No echo or complaints about muffled sounds were heard while answering calls on the OnePlus Buds 3.

OnePlus Buds 3 review: Verdict

The OnePlus Buds 3 are a well-rounded package that delivers impressive sound quality, a comfortable fit, and a nice set of features at a competitive price point. While the noise cancellation might not be best-in-class, the transparency mode and overall value proposition make them a strong contender for anyone seeking an upgrade to their audio experience. Where the OnePlus Buds 3 truly shine is their value proposition. And that has always been OnePlus’ biggest strength. The combination of pleasing sound, customisable features, and reasonably good battery life make them a solid choice for budget-conscious buyers.
