We want to shine a light on the junior sportspeople in SA whose actions on field, and off, do their communities proud. Fill out the nomination form. One little legend each week will win $100.

Do you know a little legend in your sporting community?

This week, the Sunday Mail, with the support of the Fairmont Homes Group, is launching a new campaign aimed to celebrate all aspects of kids’ sport, team and individual.

Called Little Legends, nominations are being sought from coaches, team managers, parents, grand parents, aunts, uncles and friends of kids playing sport across the state.

Each week the finalists will appear in an online gallery with the weekly winner receiving $100.

The goal is to capture the milestone moments as well as the everyday proud parent ones.

It might be a young player who has taken a spectacular mark at footy, made their first half century at cricket, shot the winning goal at netball or had a great passage of play at rugby.

But it might also be the youngster who has shown determination, courage or kindness to others on or off-field – or even pulled a pair of footy boots on for their first game.

The photo can be an action shot, or taken before or after the game – even a professional image taken as part of an official club shoot.

Three-time Olympian and former Australian basketball player Rachael Sporn says the benefit to kids playing sport are many fold.

“Not that kids realise it at the time but sport teaches you about so many life skills and at the same time they are developing friendships that will last a lifetime and of course it keeps you fit and healthy,” she said.

Fairmont Homes group CEO Marc Taintey agreed: We want to help bring up a new generation of kids that are both physically and mentally healthy.”
