NAVI MUMBAI: Clutch plates of more than 100 cars got burnt on the Saimal to Dasturi section of the Mumbai-Pune national highway and more than a dozen cars were similarly damaged on the Dheku village stretch of the Mumbai-Pune expressway during the Christmas weekend rush between Friday evening and Sunday night.
Towing vans had to be pressed into service by the highway safety patrol in the ghat section to clear the Pune-bound carriageway.
Around 25 mechanics were attending the vehicles in the ghat section of the expressway, charging a minimum of Rs 6,000 for replacement of the clutch plates.
